Grids and flowers

Árpád Bényi took care of the work of the Bihari Drawing Teacher Studio, from 1980 he headed the drawing department of the teacher training college in Nyíregyháza, initiated the creation of the art department at Ferenc Medgyessy High School in Debrecen, and was the chairman of the board of trustees of the Munkácsy Trilogy Foundation. His book summarizing his artistic and pedagogical experiences was published in 1998 under the title Brush and Easel. In his 75th birthday exhibition - the 50th anniversary of the 1956 revolution - the 20 fifty-six paintings he offered to the city of Debrecen were included in a separate block. There are 25 more oil paintings and 10 watercolors on this subject in the family estate. And almost the entire oeuvre is permeated by the memory of the prison years and retribution: the bars never allowed the flowers to breathe freely... Árpád Bényi expressed his artistic goals in poetic language: "I would like all the color spots in my pictures to shed their worldly shadows, and with the weightlessness of the butterfly the crowd would become a flash of paint."
