Description
The 18th part of the life series, which appears in two volumes, consists of writings - lectures, prefaces, book reviews, newspaper articles - that appeared at different times and on different occasions. These have so far been difficult to access even in German, although they are an integral part of Jung's oeuvre: they discuss topics related to psychology that the author has dealt with with scientific thoroughness, such as occultism and spiritualism in addition to practical psychiatry. The first three chapters discuss the basic ideas of Jung’s psychology. The very first chapter contains material from five lectures, Tavistock Lectures, held in London in 1935: it describes the author’s conception of the human psyche and presents the methods used in his research. The second and third chapters deal with one of the main themes of Jung psychology, the meaning of the symbols that the unconscious creates and that appear and become interpretable in dreams, while the fourth, fifth, and sixth chapters are the Jungian life series I. III. and IV. collects minor writings related to his volumes that complement or nuance their contents.
